jasmine costume (Halloween 2011)
Since I work around children, I always try to pick a recognizable character as my Halloween costume. I decided that this year I would be Princess Jasmine from Disney's "Aladdin".
The costume is built as close as I could get to her actual costume from a 2D animated film.
Comfortable blue satin was molded over hard bra cups, so that the top would never accidentally slide down. The off-shoulder sleeves are made specifically to my size so I can raise and lower my arms easily, but still never have them flopping around loosely once the tension is gone.
The harem pants are puffed at the bottom like hers, and I even made custom curled-toe slippers because a decently priced, movie-caliber pair didn't exist anywhere else online.
I made the wig by hand also, starting with a plain 3 foot black wig and teasing and shaping it to be the right type. I found that other wigs were either too expensive or too silly-looking for the price, so I opted to do it better on my own. I was also able to perfectly match the satin ribbons in her hair to the fabric, because it was all cut from the same cloth.
Overall for such a simple costume, it was a success.
